Thanksgiving Feast

2005 Update:  This year we will have the Feast the last weekend of September at Camp Betz in Berrien Springs.

Every year one or two weekends before Thanksgiving the troop has there annual Thanksgiving Feast.  The Webelos which will be crossing over in the next few months are invited to come and see what Scouting is all about.

Saturday is full of activities put on by the Boy Scouts of Troop 623.  Some of these events are making fire starters,  how to start a camp fire, campfire safety, team building, and orienteering to name just a few.  Saturday evening features a full thanksgiving meal.  The turkeys are slow cooked on a special set-up (see photo below).  The pies and bread are cooked in Dutch ovens.  There is usually plenty of food for all to get there fill.

After dinner a Flag retirement ceremony is held.  This is truly an honor to be able to conduct this ceremony.  This ceremony is lead by one of the Scouts.

The day is caped off with one or two rounds of capture the flag.  On Sunday we have breakfast, clean-up and head for home.
